Zak Enterprises is a fully compliant source for all your Data Destruction
requirements. Our secure, state of the art facility, is set up for efficient
high volume Data Destruction processing
Serving Silicon Valley since 1993, Zak Enterprises can provide
disk wipe or drive destruction on all your retired hard disk drives. We can
process stand alone drives or accept the entire computer for proper recycling
with complete data destruction on all hard disk drives and other non-volatile
media.
As a full service computer
recycler, Zak Enterprises is focused on the environmental aspects and the
associated regulations associated with recycling computer equipment. We promote
the concept of reuse whenever possible as this is the most efficient use of
these resources. The potential issue with the reuse scenario for disk drives is
the fact that there is potential confidential information residing on the drive
that the previous user does not want exposed. This problem is referred to as
IDCI (Inadvertent Disclosure of Confidential Information) and is the number one
security related concern of corporate America.
In an effort to address the IDCI
problem, Zak Enterprises offers the following services

Disk
Drive Wiping in Compliance with DOD Standard DOD5220.22-M
While all legitimate recycling companies must comply with
DTSC regulations for handling toxic material, there are very few that do so
while also complying to the strict guidelines as laid out in the “Recyclers
Pledge of True Stewardship. Zak Enterprises understands that being a good global
citizen is vital to the future of our planet but we also realize that we have a
responsibility to our customers to protect any and all confidential information
that is transferred from our customers to us.
The number one source of confidential information we
obtain comes through our doors residing on the disk drives of computers we are
tasked to recycle. The fastest growing exposure of company confidential
information as well as employee personal information comes from used disk drives
is called IDCI (Inadvertent Disclosure of Confidential Information). Though many
companies are not aware of potential IDCI weaknesses in their company it is
probably the biggest back door security threat most companies endure.
Things such as confidential documents, employee medical
records, passwords, company address books, and credit card numbers are just a
few of the sensitive documents residing on the computers of most employees.
Simple erasing or formatting of disk drives is not sufficient to completely
eradicate all information from disk drives. Zak Enterprises has instituted a
process for which every single disk drive that enters our facility is wiped
completely clean in compliance with the Department of Defense standard
DOD5220.22-M.
We are not talking about some of the drives, some of the
time, we process every drive every time. This is a time consuming process but
one we deem to be crucial to protect our customers from IDCI. If your current
recycling partner is not processing everyone of your drives to this standard you
could be sitting on a time bomb that could mean significant liability to your
company.

Though not as environmentally friendly as disk drive reuse, we do offer the
service of complete disk drive destruction for our customers interested in this
service. Disk drive destruction is a little more costly to implement but if this
give our customers peace of mind we are happy to comply.
The implementation of Disk Drive destruction includes removal of the printed
circuit board from the drive, removal of the disk drive connector, drilling a
hole through the entire disk drive penetrating every disk drive platter, and
finally recycling of the disk drive case to is raw materials of aluminum. Again
there is a significant amount of manual labor involved in this effort resulting
in increased costs.
